There are in this world today hundreds of thousands, if not millions of orphans and each one of them should hold a special place in the heart of the believer because Allah
(swt) and His Rasul (saw) have both directed us towards their welfare. Allah
(swt) says:
“Treat not the orphan with harshness” (Qur’an 93:9)
And our beloved Nabi (saw) said
“I, and the one who looks after an orphan, will be together like this in the next world”, then he raised his index and middle fingers together. (Hadith Muslim)
Islamic Relief has just announced that they now sponsoring 20,000 orphans in 21 countries worldwide due to the kind donations of many amongst us.
In 2003, Islamic Relief set up the Alyateem website which allows donors to search a database of orphans waiting for sponsors. IR donors have sponsored 15,700 children over the past four years – an average of 15 orphans sponsored each day. This truly blessed effort by the staff at Islamic Relief has resulted in these innocent little children being given the love, care and support they needed and deserved.
There are, however, little children right at this very moment in the world who are crying, who are scared, who have nothing and who are living in fear and they have nobody to kiss them and hold them tight.
Alyateem is a simple way to help them and assist them
“They ask you, (O Muhammad), what they shall spend. Say: that which you spend for good (must go) to parents and near kindred and orphans and the needy and the wayfarer. And whatsoever good you do, lo! Allah
is Aware of it.” (Qur’an 2:215)
This affinity between the orphan and the Prophet (saw) is expressed with great clarity in the sacred tradition (hadith) There is a promise of Paradise for anyone who looks after an orphan:
“Whoever caresses the head of an orphan (in affection), solely for the sake of Allah
, a good deed will be written to his account for every hair over which he passed his hand, and whoever treated an orphan (boy or girl) with goodness and kindness, he and I will be close to each-other in Heaven as these two fingers”
The important lesson Muslims have taken from this well-known hadith is that to choose the companionship of an orphan is to choose the companionship of the Prophet himself (saw).
Log onto Alyateem and set up an account right now and you will earn your reward in Paradise with the companionship of our beloved Nabie (saw)
