The Messenger of Allah
(saw) said,
“Whoever wears clothes of fame in the world, Allah
will dress him in clothes of humiliation on the Day of Judgment.”
Hadith Abu Dawud, Ahmad, Ibn Majah
Commentary:
This applies to any form of clothing worn to express a sense of pride or arrogance or to mislead others into believing one is a saint, scholar, jurist, or some other distinguished personality. However, one who humbles himself [in appearance and otherwise] will be honoured on the Day of Judgment.
