Nancy Pelosi & American Double Standards

Bismillah

Tibet has been in the news a lot recently and it has, quite rightly, been receiving a great deal of coverage by the media. I was watching one particular news programme about Tibet and China when Nancy Pelosi, the third most senior figure in American Politics, gave a speech. With my mouth open and chin on the ground i could hardly believe my ears. She said:

“If freedom-loving people throughout the world do not speak out against Chinese oppression and China and Tibet, we have lost all moral authority to speak on behalf of human rights anywhere in the world.”

Whilst i agree with pointing out Chinese oppression the double standards of this statement is just too much to ignore.

The Chinese oppression of the Tibetans can be easily compared to the oppression that the Palestinians are receiving at the hands of the apartheid regime of Israel and its backers, America. But no such words are uttered in defense of the Palestinians anywhere in the world of American and British politics (save a few “rebels”)

i would say to Nancy Pelosi and the rest of the American government: “Indeed, you have already lost all moral authority to speak on behalf of human rights anywhere in the world”

…and i didn’t even mention Guantanamo.

Check it out for yourself

No argument that ‘moral authority’ in the context of US Bush foreign policy: ‘to wage war for profit’, a grotesque oxymoron.

Islamic States: Iran, Gaza, Saudi Arabia & the Emirates, Egypt, Syria and soon Pakistan & Turkey, together with China (Tibet), North Korea, Burma, et al all hold individual human rights as subordinate to religious/political fascist principles. Hard to argue that Hizbollah & Hamas are serving their following by constantly sniping at Israel and putting hapless civilians from both sides in the crossfire. Worldwide, moral authority must start with protection of an individual’s human rights as the first principle!
