“And if you were to ask them, they would say: ‘Surely we were
only jesting and playing.’ Say: ‘Was it Allah, His Verses,
or His Messenger you were mocking? Make no mistake,
verily you have disbelieved after your belief.”
Istihzaa and Istikhfaaf are two very dangerous attitudes to have in one’s heart, especially for a Muslim.
Istihzaa means to jest, to mock, to ridicule, to deride or to make fun of any teaching, sunnah, practice, tenet or belief of Islam
Istikhfaaf means to consider lightly; to regard something as insignificant or immaterial or of no importance any affair, teaching, belief, etc. of Islam
I have had plenty of abuse from non Muslims for the way I look and dress over the years. It used to annoy me immensly at first as it used to make me feel uncomfortable about wearing a jubba or turban outside of my house. These days I dont mind so much, I have accepted it on the whole; they have yelled abuse from their cars, laughed at me and called me names (some quite funny, some very rude)
What do you expect from them, anything different?
No, but when it is a Muslim who does this, it immediately takes on a new, more sickening odour.
Today, I noticed that a Muslim brother was mocked because he was sporting a thobe and turban, he was laughed at as he walked by, it was said “what is he wearing” “look at him.”
I am used to hearing these insults, as I have mentioned, but to hear it from a Muslim made me very angry and upset.
It is quite something when one is made to feel out of place amongst Muslims when one just wishes to follow the religion of Allah
and His Prophet (saw).
Our beloved Prophet Muhammad
predicted this situation however;
“Islam began as something strange, and it shall return to being something strange, so give glad tidings to the strangers.”
The Da’ee, Khalid Yaseen speaks about “The Strangers” in this powerful video
