A lot of Muslims have accused Abu Hurayra of making things up. At least one time he was caught doing that he admitted that he did not get what he had said from Muhammad. But what of the other times when he wasn't caught or asked? He has Ahadith that conflict in various ways with the Qur'an and Sunnah. He also reports Ahadith that no one else and no other isnad reports. Perhaps the real question is as to the reliability of Abu Hurayra. I realize that this lone hadith you discuss appears in what most consider a reliable collection of Ahadith but if the report of his being whipped for lying and making up Ahadith is true or even possible, should we not consider this when discussing anything like this that comes from Abu Hurayra?
