Noam Chomsky, Obama, Isreal and Gaza

Bismillah

President Obama lays out his position on Gaza and guess what?  It’s the same as Bush’s position – no change there then. Obama speaks only about (alleged) Hamas crimes and says that for there to be an enduring peace Hamas needs to do this and Hamas needs to do that.  Not one word about any of the crimes Israel is guilty of and not one word directed at Israel’s role in establishing “peace”

Noam Chomsky says in this very good interview that Israel does have the right to defend itself, and it can do this by stopping their crimes in Gaza and the West Bank.

It is true that Hamas is painted as a terrorist organisation throughout the media to get people to hate them, and it is working, there are even deluded Muslims that proudly state they don’t support Hamas and never will. The media is also portraying that the people of Gaza do not like Hamas and are even scared of Hamas to further isolate their support.  The official Israeli lair, Mark Ragev, has even said that Hamas are executing its own people and are the ones who used phosphorous on the Palestinians.

The reality on the ground is that Hamas’s popularity is astonishing among the people of Gaza and they should know and take comfort from the knowledge that in the Ummah of our beloved Muhammad, the majority are right behind them.

We are slowly beginning to see Obama’s true colours and allegiances coming out now and we should not be surprised by them.  The only people who will be surprised will be those Muslims who fell for the propaganda and were sucked into believing Obama will help the Muslims.

    hamza,
The thing is most people who support Obama and like him know his support for Israel very well. It is very clear. You are somehow under the assumption that you have discovered this truth. not true my friend.
However Obama is impressive in many ways. The sheer history of his victory perhaps cannot be appreiciated by someone who doesnt understand slavery, segregation, Jim Crow South, the civil rights movement. It cannot be appreciated without a sense and knowledge of history.
Second, he ran a campaign that will be studied for generations for its sheer skill and genius.
In regards to politics he has promised to be different in many ways. his promise was to set a timetable for withdrawal from Iraq and closing Guantanamo Bay, to outlaw torture and anything resembling it. This he fulfilled in his first few days in office. His message is inspirational and uplifting, he doesnt say he is a panacea to all ills but believes that government and it's citizens should live upto it's ideals.
In regards to Hamas. i have read thier charter many times. They are anti-semitic. they believe that the Jews started WW11 among all the wars it started and presumably Hitler was a self-hating jew.
They are strategically inept and ill disciplined. They are not even close to the Hezbollah in any way. We have to support them and who ever stands up to oppression.
  • Good comment Abdullah. You are right to describe Obama’s campaign in the manor you did, his use of social media and traditional media in the campaign was simply brilliant, it was something nobody has ever done as well before.

I agree with you in that I never discover this truth about Obama, many did so before me, I was actually responding to your point that I was just discovering it. Khayr.

Obama is certainly a fantastic and inspirational orator as you say but I have heard this type of thing before. Bill Clinton campaigned on Change and so did Tony Blair in 1997 and I fell for it. Little did I know that Blair was going to be responsible for the deaths of over 1 million Muslims in the future?

Leaving Iraq can be countered by saying he is sending his army to Afghanistan to cause more trouble for us over there. Guantanamo being closed is brilliant and the change of policy towards torture is also brilliant - but also obvious, anyone with a conscience would do the same i suggest

I will have to disagree with you about Hamas being anti Semitic. It applies that they hate Jews just for being Jews which is no true; they hate the oppression and tyranny and are fulfilling Prophet Muhammad’s prophecy about them.

If Salahudeen Ayubi (ra) was alive today I am sure he would be fighting them too, not just because they are Jews, but because they occupy the Holy Land and are suppressing the Muslims. Moreover, if Abu Bakr and Umar (ra) were alive they too would fight to regain the land as they wanted and did during their Caliphate. It’s not about them being Jews it’s about their oppression and occupation.

Far from being strategically inept and ill disciplined I could argue that they have succeeded in denying Israel their victory by killing over 90 Israeli soldiers, destroying some tanks and bringing down helicopters (according to them and Press TV) and staying alive. Remember Israel’s aim was to “totally destroy them and prevent them from functioning.” Moreover they have the support of the people, so in spite of huge obstacles and lack of resources they have actually managed to do so much.

Don’t know where they get the Jews and WW2 from though :)

Hamas’s statement in their charter that the State of Israel should be replaced with a Palestinian Islamic state (or to fall under the Muslims) is not anti Semitic, it is Sunnah to want this, The Prophet (saw) spoke of it, as did Abu Bakr (ra) and then Umar (ra) implemented it. I don’t see any problem with that. Were they anti semetic?

If we think deeply, it is not about the Jews, its actually more about Zionism, I have see and met plenty of Jews who feel the same about Israel as we do. In fact they go further and call for the complete dismantlement of the State of Israel, nobody can call them anti Semitic.

[We are slowly beginning to see Obama’s true colours and allegiances coming out now and we should not be surprised by them.]
i think you are the only person i know who is slowly begining to see his true colours and allegiances. Obama has been a consistent supporter of Israel in all his speeches during the primaries. His statements to aipac and other zionist organisations were messages of support that were more zionist then Clinton.
so judge him on the promises he did make. like closing gitmo and getting troops out if iraq.
Hamas is very clearly anti-semitic. They have fought fatah in a tribal war killing innocent civilians. So even though we support them in thier fight against zionists they are no angels.
  • If you have been to this blog before you may have realised that I have seen his true colours right from the beginning. I have always seen through his words and have been actively campaigning against this bizzar Muslim fascination of him right from when he came into prominence.

Hamas are not anti-Semitic; they are anti oppression, anti occupation and anti tyranny, it just so happens that those who are committing these crimes are JEWS. Btw, the majority are not even Semites, they are of European descent and their predecessors converted.

Whilst I agree they are no angels, who are? Our beloved prophet said in a sahih hadith

"'There is still a group of people of our nation who cling to the truth and defeat their enemies whose opponents cannot harm them… The Prophet was asked, who are [these people] and where are they?

    He answered:

"In Jerusalem and its surroundings, and they are at the forefront [of the battle] until Judgment Day…"'

Therefore, we should support them and we should overlook their mistakes

    Salam,

Sidi what you mention is true...but just as we acknowledge the bad in others, we must acknowledge the good. His first executive order was to close down Gitmo and stop all torture, as well as to ensure all prisoners get their fair trial. This is not small or insignificant, and it must be acknowledged. Our Beloved [peace be upon him and his family] is reported to have said, "Whoever does not thank people has not thanked God." Hence, if we do not thank Obama for the above blessings [Gitmo, etc], then we have not thanked Allah Ta'ala. And I'm sure we can both agree that closing down Gitmo and its related activities is quite a big blessing, one that surely warrants our gratitude to Allah Ta'ala. Which, according to our Beloved [peace be upon him] will not occur until and unless we sincerely thank Obama as well.

To clarify, I'm not justifying his policies in Israel, but rather just highlighting the fact that we must get out of this black/white mentality that people are either 100% good or 100% bad, whether with Muslims or NonMuslims. It is absurd - plain and simple. True colors of any human being are full of different shades. Even Abu Lahab had good in him...Even someone who devoted much of his time/energy to personal animosity towards the most Beloved of Allah [peace be upon him], had some good in him. As mentioned in the hadith, he is given a glass of water in Jahannam for freeing a slavegirl out of joy for the birth of our Beloved [peace be upon him]. So if someone as evil as Abu Lahab had some good in him, then any other kafir, whether Bush or Obama or whoever, a fortiori.

Yes there are policies of Obama's that are clearly unjust, but there are other policies of his that are full of justice and mercy. And we will never be able to have an effective voice of changing his [or anyone else's for that matter] bad policies if we fail to thank him for his good policies. Just as we complain about the bad with so much vigor, so too we must celebrate and honor the good, with just as much vigor, if not more.

    Hamza: Well said
