A good friend of mine used to be a passionate evangelical Christian; he told me that he used to stand in the middle of Birmingham city centre weeping for the people because he believed they were going to the hellfire.  He tells me he used to try and talk to as many people passing by as he could, trying in any way to inform them of the Gospel and the good news that Christ died for their sins.

He said that the people he had the most problems with were the Muslims; as he recalled his dealing with the Muslims he smiled and said “they were a stubborn bunch; they just wouldn’t accept anything I said.”

In order to deal with these “stubborn” Muslims he decided to find out where they were coming from intellectually, so he purchased a Qur’an and a few complimentary books with intention of reading it and disproving it by breaking down their arguments.

To his utter amazement he began to agree and identify with what he was reading and couldn’t find fault in any of it. He kept reading and reading until, soon after, he said the kalimah and professed his belief in Islam.

I am reminding myself of my friend’s journey as it is similar to the fascinating journey Daniel Streich has recently gone through in Switzerland.

Daniel Streich, a Swiss politician and renowned for his anti Islam position on many issues and more famously; he was the originator of the campaign against the building of minarets in his homeland.

Allah works in amazing ways, Daniel Streich has now embraced Islam after reading the Qur’an and investigating further into the subject of Islam.  He has renounced his former policies and is ashamed of them and is now working towards the establishment of a big Mosque in Switzerland….not sure if it will have a minaret though.

Allah guides whoever He chooses, May Allah make him an example for the rest of humanity and keep him steadfast upon his faith.
