The Guardian recently exposed the extremely provocative actions by the West Midlands Police, Birmingham City Council and the Safer Birmingham Partnership (SBP) in their deployment of a network of spy cameras in the Muslim areas of Birmingham. Under the pretext of “preventing terrorism”surveillance cameras catch every vehicle and person passing through these “zones” placing Muslims under a level of surveillance that is incomparable anywhere in the world.
Obviously, the Muslim population of Birmingham have reacted with anger and they have been joined in their fight by many freedom campaigners across the country including Shami Chakrabati, the director of Liberty.
A meeting has been called on Sunday 4th July at 4.30 at The Bordesley Centre, Stratford Road, Camphill to discuss this unacceptable move by the authorities to place further burdens on the Muslim community.
Please, attend this meeting if you can and offer your support and make your views heard!
Speakers include:
Shami Chakrabarti – Director of Liberty
Gareth Pierce – Human Rights Lawyer
Lord Nazir Ahmed (TBC)
John Hemming MP
Local Councillors from all parties including Salma Yaqoob
Representatives from West Midlands Police and many more…
